The Urs of Hazrat Khaja Banda Nawaz
The annual Urs e Shareef of Hazrat Bandanawaz Gesudaraz is an event conducted on a massive scale in the city of Gulbarga. The District Administration and the Police Department, take an active part in the event and assist the Dargah Management in the arrangements for the lakhs of pilgrims who arrive in Gulbarga for this event.
Apart from this grand Annual event, there are other Urs of close family members of the Saint which are celebrated on a minor scale throughout the year. These are in addition to the observation of important religious occasions like the Milad un Nabi in the month Rabbi ul Awwal according to the Islamic Calendar.
Instructional Lectures are organised by the Sajjada Nasheen and Scholars are invited from various parts of the Country to deliver these Lectures which are attended by a large number of people
The Khaja Bazaar
During the Urs-e-Shareef lakhs of devotees converge on the premises of the Dargah, apart from the merchants and traders who also come here to take part in the Annual Fair of the Khaja Bazaar ,and who come prepared for a long stay of nearly over a month
The merchants and traders sometimes arrive with their families and one person atleast sleeps in the stall itself. The shops are hired by them for a period of a month for the display of their merchandise.
In earlier years these merchants used to spend a month of hardship but had to take it in their stride as part of their business . Somewhere there is to be found an aspect of devotion to the Saint Gisudaraz.
